What We Spent in Hiroshima & Miyajima: A Real Cost Breakdown
Same as my Tokyo, Hakone, and Kyoto breakdowns, I am keeping this one short and focused on the numbers. Transit isn't included here, since I tracked transportation trip-wide rather than city-by-city. For a general sense of what transportation costs, check out our full 14-day Japan cost breakdown.

Hiroshima and Miyajima were a single overnight stop on our route. This was the second real slow-down we built into the trip, alongside Hakone. Like Kyoto, most of what made this stretch memorable didn't cost much at all.

Where We Stayed
Hotel Miyajima Villa — 1 night, $401
This ended up being one of our favorite hotels of the entire trip as it felt genuinely luxurious compared to some of our other stays. Our room even had a massage chair, which we made good use of after a long, rainy day of exploring. We each had our own bed too, which meant everyone actually slept well.
What We Ate
Hiroshima / Miyajima Food: $80.37
We had lunch in Hiroshima - okonomiyaki, which the city is famous for. I even found a location with a gluten-free option! Dinner on Miyajima that evening was lovely too, also covered in the guidebook, especially given how quiet and empty the island had become by that point in the day. This restaurant also had a quiet, zen garden to look out at while you're eating.
What We Did
Hiroshima & Miyajima Experiences: $25.14
Much of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial area and the Miyajima experience can be enjoyed without significant admission costs. Our main paid experience here was:

We also took the World Heritage Sea Route ferry, operated by Aquanet Hiroshima, ($30.96) to reach the island. A ferry is a required part of getting there, worth budgeting for, especially if you're racing an incoming typhoon like we were! Note that this ferry cost isn't included in the subtotal above, since it's counted as part of our overall trip-wide transportation tracking rather than a city-specific experience cost, it’s just mentioned here for reference, not as an added expense to this page's total.
Another option is to take the JR ferry to the island instead as it's much more affordable, but requires you to leave the Peace Memorial area to get to it - adding roughly 50 minutes of transit time via tram and train to reach the Miyajimaguchi ferry terminal. Since we were already in a rush, the World Heritage Sea Route ferry made more sense, becuase it's located less than 5 minutes from the Peace Memorial area, where we already were and where we had lunch. The JR ferry crossing itself is quite short, only about 10 minutes, it's just the transit to get there that requires the additional time.
